The Aeroflot website is a real gem. Gloriously unprofessional it explains excess baggage rules by means of a series of questions and answers, the closest one of any use is the following: "Question:
What is about mountain ski? What is the fee in the flight Moscow-Sophia?
Answer:
One pare of ski (including boots and sticks) is equal to 3 kg of excess luggage. In the flight Moscow-Sophia the fee for each kilogram of excess luggage is 155 roubles or 5 USD. You can get detailed information in our Information center in Moscow: (495) 223-55-55 and in St.Petersburg: (812) 718-55-55."
So that should be pretty clear.
Obvioulsy, we've contacted them for further clarification...
...And they've told us this: "Aeroflot Russian Airlines has a following rules of water equipment transportation:
SURFBOARDS, WINDSURF
A special watersport aquipment items which are more than 158 santimetres should be
ordered for transportation in advance and will be included in a passenger's baggage limit
according to the booking class. Charges for extra baggage applies due to travel zone."
We're still none the wiser then!

If you have flown with, or know a good tip specific to this airline, please
let everyone know by rating it and leaving a report here. Some airlines
don't apply (or even know) their own kit policies so it's useful to see
other people's experiences flying with them …
