Activities
Wherever you go in the world, the wind doesn't always blow. But in Boracay there is so much to do, and so many beautiful places to see that a no wind day really is no problem. Matt and Clair from Reef Retreat know the island very well, and are always happy to help out organizing an amazing day out. The following gives a guide to what is available, aside from the obvious dining in great restaurants, swimming off white sand beaches and sunbathing under a hot tropical sun...
Diving
There are more than thirty dive sites surrounding Boracay Island making it ideal for beginners and experienced divers alike. With everything from the fascinating micro life in and around the coral reefs to large ocean going creatures, all in crystal clear water this is a fantastic place to learn diving or take it to the next level.
Most of the dive sites can be reached within 10 to 15 minutes of leaving the beach on your dive boat, making it very convenient and easily done in a half day if required.
If you're not already a PADI certified diver then you can sign up for one of the many courses to start you in to the world of Scuba Diving. Take your first breath underwater with the discover scuba course (1/2 day) or receive your PADI open water diving certificate (3 to 4 days) so that you can dive all around the world.
Reef Retreat can organize everything you need. Just tell them what you fancy and they'll make sure you get down there with a package that suits you.
Spa Treatments
Aimed primarily at windsurfing partners, but also a wonderful way to ease the aches and pains that too much time on the water inevitably brings - surrender yourself to a well-deserved pampering at Tirta Spa or Mandala Spa. Both are world-class health spas offering high-quality facilities and wellness therapies. Special treatments include full-body massages, facials, body wraps, scrubs, body polishes and aroma therapy treatments.
Both Spa’s offer signature packages for both women and men, as well as a variety of expertly crafted spa products, giving clients the opportunity for renewal at the heart of this peaceful yet invigorating, luxury spa experience.
From a one hour massage to a full day treatment package you can choose your own delights. Full details of treatments and packages are available at reception, just advise Reef Retreat of your required treatments and time and we will take care of your reservations for you. All you need to do is turn up and be pampered.
Island Hopping
Island hopping around Boracay is one of the best and nicest ways to see and enjoy the beautiful beaches. You can take a boat trip around Boracay island purely for sightseeing but its more fun to make stops at the various beaches to swim, snorkel, relax, or take lunch and a few drinks.
A local outrigger boat can be arranged for 2 to 20 people for either a half day or full day trip where you make the decision of how long you want to spend at each location.
As an additional stop, Laurel island, located in the Tabon Strait (the water that separates Borcay from Caticlan on Panay Island) has a beach named Crystal Cove. The island has 2 large caves that can be visited (Crystal Caves) with a small entrance fee and a beautiful white sand beach for swimming.
Paraw Sailing
The Paraw is the traditional sail powered outrigger boat found all over the Philippines. All you need to do is lie or sit on the sturdy net extending like hammocks from both sides of the hull. As your legs dangle about two feet above the water, you can enjoy the cool, sea wind and take in a grand view of the island. Depending on the wind, you can sail around the island in one and a half to two hours’ time.
Paraw-sailing is also the coolest way to get a tan: You won’t feel the heat as the sea breeze will fan you while you toast on the net. You’ll also see a lot of action going on in the water: Families speeding away on banana boats, jet skis zigzagging over the waves, and parasails gliding far away. Of course, the sunset provides the ultimate, late-afternoon spectacle.
These can seat up to six or eight passengers
Boracay has a huge range of other things to do with everything from golf to helicopter rides or just exploring the island. If you're stuck for ideas, or need help organizing something, Reef Retreat will be only too happy to help.
