Windsurfing & Kitesurfing in Gostoso

The city however small, has an excellent infrastructure for tourists and residents alike. Many Europeans live in Gostoso, owners of great restaurants and pousadas (accomodation) so you can be assured of world-class cuisine.

The town itself is very safe and peaceful so you can walk all over town or hire a motorcycle-taxi, costing very little to get you anywhere.

You have four choices of beaches, one beside the other: Praia do Santo Cristo, Praia do Cardeiro (home of Clube Kauli), Praia da Xepa and Praia do Maceio.

This is a no news no shoes destination for the intrepid traveller looking for a location with a super-relaxed vibe and very little tourism.

Getting Here

Sao Migual Do Gostoso is approximately 1.5 hours from Natal on somewhat unfinished roads through local villages ensuring you get to enjoy the sights and sounds of this amazing country along the way. More info opposite.

Conditions

The sailing spot of Sao Migual offers a large, flatwater bay with sandy beach launch and outer reefs providing shelter. There is a shallow water area at low tide which is ideal for beginners.

Good for freeride, freestyle, wave and bump and jump there is excellent wave riding from November to January. The waves are minimal at low tide but can reach 1 to 1.5m at high tide.

A sandbar is located approximately 300m of the point in the leeward side. Here, in the middle of the bay, the best wave spot offers waves up to 2.5 meters high around 2 hours before and after high tide which run perfectly with the side shore wind from the right.

There are a few of hazards to be aware of. A stone reef, covered in sharp shells, about 1km off the centre plus 3 stone blocks only visible at low tide, which are marked with buoys. Around 1km downwind is a second, larger reef again only seen at low tide. The centre will locate these for you before you sail. Apart from these there is only fine white sand.

The Centre

The Clube Kauli Seadi offers the newest equipment on the market for windsurfing and kitesurfing with sails from Neilpryde, JP-Australia boards and Core Kites. The club has a total of approximately 60 complete windsurfing equipments for all levels including children.

Tuition
All instructors are highly trained, each with years of teaching experience. Group lessons ranging from first-time beginners to advanced sailing are available. All lessons could be scheduled on-site or pre-reserved. Lesson are taught normally at mornings or evenings according to the wind speed. The lighter morning breezes are just right for beginners, while the steady afternoon winds make waterstart and jibe practice easy. There is video analysis available..

Courses can be taken in 1.5 hour blocks and start at 35 Euros for beginners including equipment rental.

UK passport holders do not require a visa to enter Brazil. However, passports must be valid for at least six months and a return ticket and proof of sufficient funds may be requested on arrival. Tourists will be admitted for a stay of up to 90 days which is extendable, at the discretion of the Federal Police, for a further 90 days. Tourists are not allowed to work.
